SUMMARY:Annual Meeting for the Society of Seventeenth-Century Music
DESCRIPTION:The Society for Seventeenth-Century Music (SSCM) will hold its annual meeting this spring at the Princeton University\, April 4-7\, 2024.  Hosted by the Department of Music\, with the support of the Program in Human Values\, the Council of the Humanities\, the Program in Italian Studies\, the Department of Art and Archaeology\, the Department of French and Italian\, and the Department of Comparative Literature\, the conference will feature three days of scholarly presentations\, a dance workshop\, lightening talks for graduate students\, and two concerts\, including excerpts from Wendy Heller’s new critical edition (Bärenreiter) Cavalli’s Veremonda l’amazzone di Aragona (1652)\, featuring guest countertenor Lawrence Zazzo\, musicians and singers from Early Music Princeton\, conducted by Michael Pratt; and a concert by the Princeton University Chamber Choir (“Music in Memoriam: Singing about Death in Moscow\, Salzburg\, Dresden\, Constantinople\, and London”)\, presented by the Princeton University Chamber Choir\, conducted by Gabriel Crouch\, with the Washington Cornet and xSackbut Ensemble\, directed by Michael Holmes.   The conference sessions will be held primarily in Taplin Auditorium. \nAdmission to the concerts is free; Princeton staff\, faculty\, and students who wish to attend the conference are asked to pre-register.  Click here to Register for event \nThe SSCM Conference at Princeton is co-sponsored by the Humanities Council\, Italian Studies\, University Center for Human Values\, Art & Archeology Department\, Society for Seventeenth-Century Music\,  Department of French & Italian\, and Comparative Literature. \n\n\n\n\nPaper Sessions:\nFriday\, April 5-9:00 AM-5:00 PM \nSaturday\, April 6- 9:00 AM-6:00 PM \nSunday\, April 7- 9:00-11:00 AM Taplin Auditorium \n\n\n\n\nConcerts:\nThursday\, April 4 at 6:00pm\n\n\n\n\nIntroducing Francesco Cavalli’s Veremonda\, l’amazzone di Aragona (1652) \n\n\n\n\nLocation: Forum\, Lewis Center for the Arts \nFree\, Unticketed \nSchedule \n\n\n\n\n\n6:00-6:30 PM: Panel discussion-: Ottomans\, Venetians\, and the Politics of Cavalli’s Veremonda\n6:30-7:30 PM: Concert-An Evening with Veremonda\n\nPerformers \n\n\n\n\nSara Hagenbuch (soprano); Brendan T.
